Dresden Monarchs land QB Rocky Lombardi for 2026 GFL season

The Dresden Monarchs have made a major offseason move, signing former Michigan State and Northern Illinois quarterback Rocky Lombardi to lead their offense in the 2026 German Football League season.

Lombardi brings college pedigree and pro experience
The 6’4”, 220-pound quarterback began his collegiate career at Michigan State, where he appeared in 22 games from 2018 to 2021, throwing for 1,902 yards and 11 touchdowns. He transferred to Northern Illinois for his final three seasons, starting 29 games and passing for 5,516 yards and 31 touchdowns. With the Huskies, he won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship in 2021 and two bowl games, establishing himself as a proven winner at the FBS Division I level.

Pro background and football lineage
After going undrafted in 2024, Lombardi signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, spending the offseason and preseason learning behind starter Joe Burrow. He later joined the Michigan Panthers of the UFL, appearing in one preseason game. Football runs deep in his family—his father, Tony Lombardi, has over 30 years of coaching and scouting experience, and his grandfather, Bob Lombardi, is a member of the Illinois High School Football Hall of Fame.

Aiming for a title in Dresden
Lombardi expressed excitement about joining the Monarchs, noting the team’s back-to-back finals appearances and his goal of bringing a championship to Dresden. His strong arm, game intelligence, and leadership make him an ideal fit for an organization known for high-level quarterback play. With his blend of collegiate success, brief pro exposure, and football IQ, Lombardi is poised to make an immediate impact as the Monarchs pursue their first title since 2024.
