ELF: Berlin Thunder sign German Bowl winning safety Alex Spillum

The Berlin Thunder of the European League of Football (ELF) have signed German Bowl-winning safety Alex Spillum. The American safety is a former division one talent who becomes the Thunder’s third American import signed this off-season already. Spillum on joining the Thunder:

The 6’2″, 190 pound former division one defensive back played in 46 games over his career at Coastal Carolina tallying 184 tackles, including 101 solo tackles and 83 assisted, including 5.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.0 sacks, seven interceptions, 17 passes defended, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two blocked kicks earning him All-Sun Belt honors in 2020 and 2021.

Following a standout career for the Chanticleers, Spillum was invited to a rookie minicamp with the Green Bay Packers.

The Chanhassen, Minnesota, native joined the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns just prior the end of the regular season. The late addition paid off as Spillum made several big plays in the postseason including a clutch interception in the German Bowl. Spillum finished the season with 27 tackles, one tackle for a loss, four pass breakups and one interception helping the Unicorns finish off an undefeated season.

Now, the second-year international player joins ELF-All Star Kyle Kitchens on the Berlin Thunder defense. The Thunder and head coach Johnny Schmuck have also signed GFL AllStar receivers Aaron Jackson and Max Zimmerman, in what has been an active off-season for the capital city team.
