The European Football Alliance (EFA) has announced that the majority of the referees who officiated in last season’s European League of Football (ELF) have agreed to officiate for the EFA, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and credibility on the field when the league begins play in 2026.
By standing with the EFA, around 100 of Europe’s most experienced officials are reinforcing the same values that unite the teams: transparency, sustainability, and the long-term growth of American football across Europe.
Fans can be sure that football will be played next season at the highest professional standard. There is demand for the sport in Europe, and now the best referees on the continent are joining forces with the best teams to deliver a professional product that will make our fans proud.
The referees emphasized that their decision reflects concerns with financial and management practices in the ELF, not the good quality of the sport and good operational cooperation with the Commissioner and his team. By aligning with the EFA, they ensure that the most competitive games in Europe will be officiated to the highest standards under a league designed for stability and growth.
With teams and referees united under the EFA banner, fans across Europe can be confident that professional football will be played at the highest level in 2026 and beyond.
