Finland: Title winning coach Lasse Voipio takes over as HC of the Helsinki Roosters

Lasse Voipio, who guided the Porvoo Butchers to the 2025 Finnish Maple League title, is the new head coach of the Helsinki Roosters. After a fourth-place finish last season, the Roosters are looking to revitalize their program with Voipio at the helm.
A proven winner
Voipio, 47, brings a wealth of experience to the Roosters, having led the Butchers to a championship in 2025. Under his leadership, the Butchers finished the regular season undefeated at 10-0, ultimately defeating the Roosters in the semifinals and overpowering the Seinäjoki Crocodiles in the Maple Bowl. His success has made him a sought-after coach in the league.
Coaching experience and background
Voipio’s coaching career began in 2017 when he took on the role of defensive coordinator for the Wolverines’ U15 team. He later moved up to the Wolverines’ coaching staff before becoming the head coach of the Butchers. In addition to his time with the Butchers and Wolverines, he has also coached the East City Giants. His playing career started in the 90s with the junior teams of the Helsinki Whips, giving him a solid foundation in the sport.
Looking ahead
The Roosters, who finished the 2025 season with a 6-4 record after winning the title in 2024, are eager to bounce back after their semifinal exit. With Voipio’s proven track record and championship pedigree, the team is optimistic about returning to the top of the Maple League under his leadership.
