France: Asnieres Molosses hand Thonon Black Panthers first loss

Relying on a tough defense and an opportunistic offense, the Asnieres Molosses stunned the previously unbeaten Thonon Black Panthers, beating them 20-13 in Paris, France on the weekend.

Thonon’s offense dominated the time of possession but could not stop the Molosses big plays.

Wide receiver Cheihkou Sow caught the Black Panthers secondary sleeping and made them pay on two spectacular touchdown catches. Jordan Moore scored the opening touchdown for Asnieres.

The Molosses stunned Thonon, forcing a fumble on the first Black Panthers play from scrimmage which defensive back Adel Bafdile returned to the two yard line. Jordan Moore scored and Asnieres took a 6-0 lead.

The shocked Black Panthers then methodically took control marching down to the red zone three times, but they could only must a pair of field goals to tie the game. They finally scored on a n end around to go ahead 7-6.

Thonon quarterback Kyle Boehm threw a first half touchdown pass to give the Black Panthers a 13-6 halftime lead.

Then Sow went to work. With his blazing speed, he simply blew by the cornerback twice, the second time with four minutes left in the game to seal the win.

With this win, the surprising Molosses have a record of 3-2-1 and have climbed into fifth, but have not lost a game since February 17. They have won three and tied one since then and their defense has only allowed an average of 11.5 points per game in those four games. Meanwhile, Thonon still remains in first ahead of the St. Ouen Cougars, La Courneuve Flash and the Marseilles Blue Star.
