France: Grizzlys Catalans down Grenoble Centaures to secure playoff spot

The Grizzlys Catalans defeated the Grenoble Centaures 27-6 this past weekend, improving their record to 5-5 and securing a spot in the D1 Elite playoffs. Meanwhile, Grenoble finished the season winless at 0-9-1.

Slow start for both teams

The game kicked off in Perpignan with both teams struggling to find their rhythm. The first quarter was a defensive battle, with neither offense able to make significant progress. The Centaures faced challenges due to a lack of depth, while the Grizzlys were working through a youth movement. However, it was the young talent of the Grizzlys that broke the deadlock. Receiver Vincent Hirzel-Guyot caught a pass from Badis Grami for the first touchdown, putting Catalans on the board.

Catalans take control

Shortly after, the Grizzlys capitalized on a fumble by Grenoble, with Zenati scoring on a rushing play to extend the lead to 14-0. The second half opened the same way, with defenses dominating the field. The Centaures managed to get back in the game when Nathan Valencia connected with Ben Perrin for a touchdown, narrowing the score to 14-6.

Closing strong

However, the Grizzlys quickly responded, with Hirzel-Guyot scoring his second touchdown of the game. A final touchdown connection between Falchetti and Rouchon sealed the victory at 27-6. With this win, the Grizzlys Catalans are set to face the Flash of La Courneuve in the playoffs, while the Grenoble Centaures will look to regroup after a tough season.
