France’s Nîmes Centurions Make Mid-Season Quarterback Change

While the Nîmes Centurions had prepared this 2015 French Elite season with much ambition, the club’s season has quickly cooled off.

With a record of four defeats and no victories, the club’s prospects of landing a spot in the playoffs have faded fast, and worse, if the Centurions continue to sink into this spiral of defeats, the team risks relegation down to D2. The team as decided to shake things up.

The announcement fell last week on the Facebook page of Centurions: exit Blake Robles, enter new American quarterback, Cayman Shutter.

With only six touchdowns passes in 4 games, the performance of Blake Robles has largely been below the expectations of Nîmes. During the last game against the Elancourt Templiers, Robles conceded safety in his end zone, which turned out to be the losing marigin as the Centurions fell 20-22.

The organization has decided to part their QB and now rely on Cayman Shutter to revive the season. A former member of the University of Hawaii Warriors (NCAA D1) and Rams at the University of Regina (Canada), Shutter, 24, has mastered the French language, a factor that greatly facilitates his integration and adaptation to Jean-Philippe Eldin’s club in Nimes.

One thing is certain, Shutter will be quickly immersed as the Centurions receive the red-hot Argonautes Saturday, April 4 as part of Week 6 of France’s top American football championship.
