German Football League’s Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns sign DB Monteze Latimore

Four-time German Football League champions, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, have signed defensive back Monteze Latimore for the 2021 season.

The 6′, 190 pound, 26-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri and graduate of Central Missouri University (NCAA Div. II) is actually getting his third shot with one of Europe’s premier teams and Unicorns head coach Jordan Neuman is happy.

“We have signed Monteze twice so far and both times things did not work out due to an oversight in the rules and Corona. But Monteze we feel is a special player and will be great for our Program both on and off the field. These are the reasons we have stuck with Monteze through all of that and feel this year it will finally pay off.”

Latimore had originally arrived in Schwäbisch Hall in the summer of 2019 but the Unicorns had not realized that he because he had played in a preseason game with the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League he was ineligible to play in the German Football League that same year. Then, he was re-signed for the 2020 season which never materialized due to the pandemic. So, third time’s a charm is the hope.

However, in 2019, when Latimore was on his way back home from Germany, Finland’s Helsinki Roosters signed him for the last part of what would be their 22nd championship season. Latimore arrived with five games to go and in that time he recorded 14 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions and a sack.

In his four years at Central Missouri he had 176 tackles and 13 interceptions. He also holds the school record for pass breakups in one season with 16 in 2017.

Latimore is excited to finally be able to suit up from the Unicorns:

“After all the obstacles, I finally get to play the game that I love with the Unicorns I will give my all until the end.”
