German Receiver Moritz Boehringer Attracting NFL Interest As 2016 Draft Looms

According to a story by Andy Fenelon in NFL.com, Mortiz Boehringer, a receiver for Germany’s Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, will be entering the 2016 NFL Draft and is a serious prospect.

Being touted as a true sleeper, the 6’4″, 225 lb receiver has amazed scouts in workouts running a 4.39 40 yard dash and displaying a 37″ vertical jump. So it seems that the secret is out on Boehringer who exploded onto the scene in Germany last year.

In 2015, his first season in Germany’s GFL, one of the top two leagues in Europe,  Boehringer recorded 70 catches for 1,461 yards and 16 touchdowns. For this, he was named the German Football League Rookie of the Year after moving up from the division 4 Crailsheim Titans where he played in 2014. He only started playing American football in 2013 and his move to the Unicorns was intended to develop him slowly. He definitely changed those plans.

According to Gil Brandt, a senior NFL Media senior analyst, Boehringer is definitely worth the excitement

“He’s the kind of guy you rush out and see.”

Boehringer was a key player for the Unicorns in 2015 in their run to the German Bowl final.

It’s not certain how many or which teams will be present on Thursday at Florida Atlantic’s pro day, where Boehringer will work out with FAU prospects. But the Cardinals, Packers, Broncos and Vikings have all shown interest in him. Minnesota apparently had a meeting with the German receiver Wednesday night.

Boehringer is not the first native-born European player to attract NFL interest this year. Anthony Dablé from France recently signed with the New York Giants and Great Britain’s Efe Obada was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs after spending the 2015 season on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.
