The Dresden Monarchs have announced the that they have re-signed head coach Greg Seamon for a third season.
Under the guidance of the 70 year old Seamon from Bright, Indiana, the Monarchs have reached the GFL Bowl two consecutive years and posted an overall record of 25-5.
Arriving in Dresden in 2024 after taking over from Paul Alexander, who had to step away due to family-related reasons, Seamon has put his own stamp on an already successful franchise. His incredible coaching background which has included stops with NFL and major college football programs, has helped shape the culture of the club.
Prior to taking over the helm of the Monarchs, he served as tight ends coach for the Cleveland Browns. Before that, he was a member of the player personnel department with the Bengals from 2003 to 2016 during which time the team reached the playoffs in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. He had been the tight ends coach for the Dallas Cowboys after an impressive college coaching career which saw him serve as the offensive coordinator for the Miami University Redhawks (1999-2000), University of Cincinnati (1995-98), and Akron University (1991-94). He had been the quarterbacks coach for Navy (1987-88) following two seasons at the University of the Pacific as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach (1985-86). He spent two seasons as the offensive line coach and running backs coach at Navy after two years at Purdue first as tight ends coach (1981) and then outside linebackers coach (1982).
The amiable Seamon was first attracted to coaching after serving as an English teacher at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He took on the role of assistant football and baseball coach and within three years he took to coaching football on a full-time basis.
Needless to say, Seamon is excited to return to finish what he started. Bring a championship back to Dresden. Although they lost, the atmosphere in Rudolf-Harbig-Stadium, their home field, was electric.
“An incredible atmosphere and pure goosebumps – what happened here before, during, and after the game. The Dresden Monarchs fans are unique in the GFL. This was evident not only in the final but also in the 14 other games of the season – whether home or away. I can’t just leave without giving these amazing fans a title,” explained Greg Seamon, with whom the Monarchs have agreed to another year of collaboration.
“I love our players, the coaches are fantastic. There are so many great people at this club! A great job is being done here for all the boys and girls in the different teams. I’m grateful to be a part of it. Besides, I like Dresden. It’s so pleasant and easy to live here.”
