The Dresden Monarchs, reigning German Football League champions, have announced the signing of Ithaca College (NCAA, Div. III) wide receiver William Gladney.
The 6’3″, 215 pound native of Binghamton, New York, spent four years at Ithaca racking up impressive numbers particularly in his senior year. It was one of the most prolific seasons for a wide receiver at Ithaca. Gladney established single season records in yards (1,161) and touchdowns (16), while his 85 receptions are second all-time. On three different occasions this season, he hauled in three touchdowns to match a single game record. Over four seasons at Ithaca, Gladney set program records from receptions (258), yards (3,574) and touchdowns (38). He also owns the record for second-most receptions (14) and yards (236) in a single game. In his final year, he was named Second Team All-American by the AFCA, Honorable Mention All-American by D3football.com, First Team All-Liberty League and First Team All-East Region by D3football.com.
Dresden head coach Ulz Däuber, explains why he signed the lanky receiver:
“We were looking for a receiver who could pose real challenges in man-to-man situations. William is fast, incredibly agile and, despite his size and bulk, feels very comfortable even on deep pass routes. Thanks to his size, he can be played in areas that cause problems for many cornerbacks and safeties, who are mostly smaller players.”
