Germany: Ingostadt Dukes face stiffest test as Frankfurt Universe pay visit

The Ingolstadt Dukes will play host to the stingiest defense in Germany when they welcome the Frankfurt Universe to ESV Stadion in Ingoldstadt Saturday evening.

The Dukes with a 5-2 record are currently fourth in the German Football league’s South division while Frankfurt is second at 6-1.

Ingolstadt, in their first year in the GFL are averaging almost 400 yards of offense a game, good for sixth and are led by quarterback Rick Webster. Webster leads the German league in passing having thrown for 2,205 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The Universe have brought in Jaleel Awini at quarterback and in his first outing against the Saarland Hurricanes he rushed for 11 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another touchdown. Frankfurt running back Silas Nacita is the third leading rusher in the country with 686 yards rushing on 73 carries, and eight touchdowns. Frankfurt’s offense is averaging 44 points a game.

The Frankfurt defense boasts the best record in Germany. In seven games, the unit led by Dustin Illetschko, has allowed only 58 points, or 8.2 points a game.

Frankfurt is on track to match their 2016 record of 12-2

It would seem that Ingolstadt, with seven games to go, has a good chance of making the playoffs and if their recent game against the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns is any indication (65-53 loss) they will be a nightmare for anyone who meets them in the post season.
