Germany: Kiel Baltic Hurricanes re-sign former All American LB Darin Hungerford

The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes have re-signed American linebacker Darin Hungerford.

The 6’, 225 pound Hungerford was one of the German Football League’s top defenders in 2019, making 155 total tackles on season, good for fourth in the league.

Hungerford explains why he chose to return to the Hurricanes:

“Signing back with Kiel for me was really not a hard decision at all. I’ve been surrounded by so many good people and the city has really embraced me and showed me a lot of love. That has really meant a lot to me, on top of having the best fans in the GFL, being in a great organization that handles things very professionally and the right way is hard to find in a lot of places. I just want to return the favor by doing everything in my power to give them a team they deserve and a team that will represent them in the best way.”

A native of Dumfries Virginia, Hungerford came to Kiel after a stellar career at Kean University (NCAA DIII). As a member of the Cougars, he was named a Division III All-American in 2017. Hungerford amassed an impressive 311 total tackles and 21 sacks in his college career.

Kiel’s new head coach Timo Zorn will no doubt rely heavily on the speedy linebacker as the Hurricanes look to rebound from their disappointing 2-12 season in 2019.
