The 1-5 Munich Cowboys finally got into the win column Sunday when they downed the 3-2 Allgäu Comets 31-28 on the road in Kempten, Germany.
Allgäu came into the game as one of the highest scoring teams in the German Football League but the Cowboys held the Comets scoreless in the second half while overcoming a 28-20 halftime deficit.
Quarterback Trenton Miller competed 22 of 40 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns with wide receiver Kai Silbermann hauling in 12 for 193 yards and all three touchdowns. Robert Werner kicked three field goals and two extra points.
Allgäu quarterback Justin Sottilare threw for 420 yards and three touchdowns but he had four passes intercepted. Jordan Paul led all Allgäu receivers with 138 yards on 13 receptions while Martin Emos caught nine passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. Féli Manoka caught two touchdown passes.
Munich fell behind early as Miller fumbled on his own six yard line and Allgäu scored, adding the two point convert to give the Comets an 8-0 lead almost before the crowd had taken their seats.
Werner narrowed the gap to 8-3 with a 47 yard field goal, but the Cowboys struggled to move the ball out of their own end after that and Sottilare made them pay as the first quarter ended throwing a six yard touchdown pass to Emos, upping the score to 14-3.

Werner kept Munich on the game though, this time by kicking a 35 yard field goal to reduce the lead to 14-6. But Sottilare responded, marching his team 84 yards in 11 plays and hitting Manoka with asix yard touchdown pass giving Allgäu a 20-6 lead.
However, Miller seemed to find his own as on the next series, he threw two passes to Silbermann, the second one a 35 yard touchdown pass and suddenly the Cowboys were back in the game, 20-13.
Sottilare answered with a 38 yard touchdown pass to Manoka, extending the lead to 28-13.
Miller then marched his team from his own 25 yard line, finishing off a nine play drive with a five yard touchdown pass to Silbermann drawing closer again, 28-20. at the break.
Neither team could gain much momentum in the third quarter with Sottilare getting picked off twice and Miller once. It wasn’t until early in the fourth that Munich was able to equalize. Miller engineered another long drvie down to the Comets five yard line and then connected with Silbermann again to tie the game at 28-28 with 10 minutes left.
With the Comets offense not able to find the end zone despite reaching the Munich 35 yard line, 18 and 10 yard line, another field goal from Werner was the difference midway through the quarter.
With the loss, the Comets sit fourth in the GFL South while Munich is still seventh.
