Germany’s Samsung Frankfurt Universe sign British WR Tim Thomas

The Samsung Frankfurt Universe, German Football League semifinalists in 2017, continue to add to their offensive arsenal with the signing of British wide receiver Timothy Thomas.

Thomas, 6’2″, 190 lb, who was born in South Africa but raised in Wales, spent the 2017 season with Finland’s Helsinki Roosters, helping them win their sixth straight Finnish championship. He was the fourth leading receiver in Finland’s Maple League with 48 catches for 617 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had played for the Seinäjoki Crocodiles the previous two years amassing 1,800 yards in receptions and 24 touchdowns.

Thomas started playing football in Wales when he was 14 and quickly developed. At 18,  he was playing for the South Wales Warriors where he stayed until 2014. He then transferred to the Bristol Aztecs in the British National League. With 50 touchdowns Thomas proved himself to be one of the best players in Great Britain and was spotted by several European teams. Thomas also played for London’s Kingston University in the British University league.

The Frankfurt Universe reached the German semifinals in 2017, only their second season in the German Football League.

Thomas was excited about his move to the GFL and the Universe:

“Now I’m finally at the Universe! “Coach K” and I have been in close contact for several years now and he has helped me from a distance, never losing sight of my goals. It has always been a dream to play in the GFL with an ambitious team and I think the Samsung Frankfurt Universe is the perfect place. Also, a few friends and acquaintances have played in recent years for the Universe and only had good things to say. This is a big step away from my “second family” in Finland, but I have the feeling that I am switching from one top club to another. Of course I know about Frankfurt’s famous players like George Robinson and John Tidwell and I I cannot wait to learn from them. I always have high expectations of myself and I will do whatever is required of me to get titles to Frankfurt.”
