Historic African Flag Ladies Cup kicks off January 8

Flag football tournaments are soaring in popularity throughout the world and the latest entry is the first ever African Flag Ladies Cup, AFLC, set for January 8 in Cairo, Egypt.

The tournament is hosted by the Eagles Athletic Club and according to spokesperson Maram Ahmad it is unique:

“The Eagles Athletic Club has initiated and is hosting a first of its kind tournament in collaboration with the Cairo Bears, the African Flag Ladies Cup, and the club couldn’t be more excited!”

The mini tournament will consist of a one-day training camp as well as a one-day cup through which a winner will be crowned. Playing for the Cup are the Eagles along with the Cairo Bears. The Moroccan Jaguars will also be competing as well as the tournament’s guests of honor from Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Phantomz.

Official sponsors of the event are Zed, El Sheikh Zayed and the the AFLC has also received international support, as the Star Wright Foundation has sponsored the US and Moroccan teams to enable their visit to Egypt under their access to play initiative.

The cup will be a knock-off tournament with the first picks done by random draw. Kicking off the AFLC tournament will be the Eagles as they face the Moroccan Jaguars. The Eagles have a 13 game unbeaten record so far this year.

The second game will pit the Cairo Bears and the Philadelphia Phantomz. The Bears’ ladies have performed well in the Egyptian Flag Football League (EFFL) and are led by star player Haidy Wael. However, they will have their hands full as the Phantomz arrive in Egypt for this historic event led by NFL Flag Ambassador Stephanie Jackson along with head coach of the University of St. Mary’s Women’s Flag Football Team, Angellica Grayson.

The Eagles are proud to be hosting this first ever international event in Egypt:
