Hungarian Football League: Fehérvár Enthroners sign former Jacksonville Jaguar Desmond Cooper

The Fehérvár Enthroners have signed former NFL defensive back Demond Cooper for the 2022 season. The ex-Jacksonville Jaguar now takes his talents to his fourth European country joining one of Hungary’s best programs.

The 6’2″, 215-pound defender was impactful for a short time with the European League of Football Champion Frankfurt Galaxy. Unfortunately, his season ended early after he suffered a lower-body injury. In five games with the Galaxy, Cooper made 9 tackles and blocked one kick.

Cooper played for the Søllerød Gold Diggers in Denmark in 2019 and 2017 where he lined up all over the defense and was a dangerous kick returner, helping them reach the Danish final in 2017. In 2018, he was also a key figure in Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers run to the championship final.

Prior to Europe, the Jacksonville, Florida native was a standout player at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His 89 total tackles and three interceptions landed him a spot with his hometown Jacksonville Jaguars. In doing so, Cooper became the first UNC Charlotte 49er to sign an NFL contract. He lasted until the third preseason game with the Jaguars before being released.

The Enthroners have also signed Canadian quarterback Chris Merchant and receiver Rashad Still in preparation for the upcoming season. Fans are eager to see the Hungarian powerhouse make some noise in Austria’s first division this summer.
