Hungary’s Győr Sharks Seeking Revenge at Home against Eger Heroes

This weekend the final two remaining teams will make their 2017 debut in the Hungarian Football League.

The Győr Sharks have a score to settle with the Eger Heroes. In the last round of the regular season in 2016, both teams had the chance to qualify for the playoffs. They played against each other in Győr where the Heroes won and had the chance to continue in the post season.

Since that game, a lot has changed for the Sharks. Former head coach Vilmos Grátz stepped down after 12 years and the club needed a new man for the job. They chose John Burleson. The Vancouver born coach had to restructure the squad but he got two new playmakers to work with. Both Máté Gyarmati and Phillip Garcia are quarterbacks with good athletic abilities. Their job is to improve the Sharks’s passing game over last year.

Győr’s quarterbacks and offensive line will be challenged by the Heroes’ physical defense. In addition, the return of linebacker Chris Murray boosts Eger’s pass rushes. On offense, head coach László Szeredi has to work with a brand new quarterback, Khalid Ali, who will also have a set of talented receivers. The two teams are, in a way, similar to each other. Both have athletic wideouts and a strong passing game. However, the two teams do not know what to expect from the other, thus, this might be a low scoring but exciting game.

The game will take place in Győr on April 9.
