IFAF New York 2017 Women’s World Championships schedule

The United States will kick off their quest for a third successive World Championship on June 24 as they take on World Championship debutantes Mexico in Langley, BC, Canada.

The United States has won each of the last two editions of the event, securing their last crown by defeating Canada in Helsinki, Finland, in 2013.

On the same day, host nation Canada will open their account against Commonwealth rivals, Australia. The Australians are making their bow in the competition and will be led by Dr Jen Welter, the first female coach in the NFL.

The final opening match-up sees a replay of the 2015 European Championship final between Finland and Great Britain which Finland won.

In the second round of fixtures, scheduled for June 27, Australia will face Mexico. Canada will face the winners of the Finland versus Great Britain game whilst the United States will face the defeated side.

June 30 will see the final round of fixtures and culminate with the World Championship final.

Richard MacLean, President of IFAF New York, welcomed the announcement:

“he 2017 Women’s World Championship will provide a tremendous showcase for football. Alongside teams which have built a pedigree in the competition, we welcome some new additions who have already demonstrated that they will add real value to the competition.”

MacLean went on to add

“‘I would like to thank our host nation, their partners, and representatives from the teams for recently attending the Technical Meeting for the competition. We look forward to it being a success.”

Teams will progress to the final Game Day based upon their records in the previous two Game Days.

The final game order on Game Day 2 will be confirmed shortly.
