Italy downs Team Serbia to qualify for IFAF Paris European Junior Championships

Team Italy outlasted a tough Serbian Under 19 squad beating them 7-6 to advance to the IFAF Paris European Junior Championships to be held in Paris July 15-17.

This was the first time Italy has qualified for the finals in 20 years. Although the absence of many competing nations due to the IFAF conflict has changed the situation dramatically. Originally, Russia and Hungary were scheduled to play in this group but both countries withdrew their teams.

In a game of defenses, Team Italy needed only a single touchdown and the ability to kick the all important extra point to earn the win over the Serbians. Quarterback Roberto Crosta tossed a 32 yard touchdown pass to Pietro Previtali in the third quarter and Italy’s kicker converted to give the Italians a 7-0 lead.

Serbia responded as Alexander Borković returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown but the extra point attempt failed. Neither team could mount a sustained drive and Italy went home with a huge win.
