Japan: Fujifilm Ebina takes revenge on IBM Big Blue in thrilling matchup

In a tightly contested game, the Fujifilm Ebina Minerva AFC (1-0) edged the IBM Big Blue (0-1) 14-7 at the Tokyo Dome on the opening weekend of action in the Japanese X-League’s spring round. This victory marked a measure of revenge for Fujifilm, who lost to IBM in the final round of last season.

Early Action Sets the Tone

The game kicked off with Fujifilm taking an early lead. Second-year quarterback Shevan Cordeiro connected with rookie wide receiver Motoki Yamaguchi for a 38-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. IBM responded in the second quarter when quarterback Jaia Wright found wide receiver Reese Horn for a touchdown, tying the game at 7-7. However, Cordeiro quickly regained the lead for Fujifilm with a 3-yard rushing touchdown.

Defensive Battle to the Finish

The second half saw both defenses step up, with neither team able to score. In a tense final drive, Fujifilm advanced to within 1 yard of the goal line, but IBM staged an impressive goal-line stand preventing a third touchdown. As the clock wound down, IBM managed to push into Fujifilm territory, but the Ebina defense made a crucial stop, sealing the victory.
