Japan: Fujitsu Frontiers dominate Fujifilm Ebina in X League opener

The Fujitsu Frontiers (1-0) opened their X League campaign with a commanding 37-0 shutout of the Fujifilm Ebina Minerva AFC (0-0) at Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium, showcasing offensive firepower and defensive dominance.

Takagi’s precision leads Frontiers
QB Tsubasa Takagi completed 11/14 passes for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns, connecting twice with WR Grant Summersy (51 yards) and once with Yuya Fukui. RB Trashawn Nixon added 69 rushing yards and a touchdown, while RB Kagawa Masanari capped scoring with a late 12-yard run. Kicker Koji Nasho converted all five PATs, ensuring a flawless special teams performance.

Ebina’s offensive struggles
Fujifilm Ebina managed just 38 passing yards from QB Shevan Cordeiro (5/11) and -3 rushing yards, stifled by Fujitsu’s relentless defense. Backup QB Yoshida Ren added 24 passing yards, but WR Tsukasa Kuwahara’s 16-yard catch marked their longest gain.

Defensive dominance
Fujitsu’s defense allowed no scoring drives, highlighted by a fourth-quarter safety. The unit held Ebina to 24 total yards, with WR Mikito Itokawa (32 yards) and RB Derek Williams (7 yards) contained throughout.

The Frontiers’ historic shutout at rugby’s “holy land” sets a high bar for their title pursuit, while Ebina seeks adjustments ahead of their next matchup.
