Japan: Obic Seagulls come from behind to beat Nojima Sagamihara Rise

In a thrilling conclusion to the regular season at Yokohama Stadium, the Obic Seagulls (6-0) pulled off a dramatic comeback against the Nojima Sagamihara Rise (4-1-1), winning 27-23. This victory not only secured Obic’s sixth consecutive win but also solidified their position near the top of the league standings.

First half fireworks
The game started with a bang as Nojima Sagamihara quickly took control, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. Quarterback Kurt Palandech connected with Yoshiki Sadanari for a touchdown pass, followed by a rushing touchdown from Junpei Yoshimoto, putting the Rise up 14-7. However, the Seagulls responded with two touchdown passes from QB Pierce Holley, leveling the score at 14-14 by halftime.

Second half shifts momentum
The second half saw Nojima regain the lead with a safety from defensive lineman Philip Redwine, followed by a touchdown pass from Palandech to Tay Cunningham, extending their lead to 23-14. But the Seagulls weren’t done yet. Running back Hayasuke Shimada powered through for a touchdown, narrowing the gap. With just a minute left in the game, Holley launched a 46-yard touchdown pass to Yuki Sakuma, completing the comeback and sealing the victory for Obic.

Pierce Holley had an impressive performance, completing 26 of 36 passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns. His top target, Yuki Sakuma, caught six passes for 100 yards and a crucial touchdown. On the ground, Hayasuke Shimada added 42 rushing yards and a touchdown.

For Nojima, Palandech completed 26 of 41 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns, with Tay Cunningham leading the receiving corps with seven catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Junpei Yoshimoto also contributed with nine receptions for 69 yards.
