Japan: Tokyo Gas Creators secure victory over Fukuoka Suns in challenging conditions

In a gritty XLeague matchup, the Tokyo Gas Creators (3-2) defeated the Fukuoka Suns (0-5) 23-7, showcasing their dominance in the ground game and solid defensive play. The game took place in less than ideal weather, with rain making conditions tough for both teams.

Strong start for Tokyo Gas
Tokyo Gas opened the scoring with a field goal from Shun Shiramoto in the first quarter, taking an early 3-0 lead. The second quarter saw the Creators extend their advantage when linebacker Hajime Tsuga intercepted a pass and returned it 41 yards, setting up a short touchdown run by quarterback Shuichi Tokushima. Shiramoto added another field goal, and by halftime, Tokyo Gas held a comfortable 13-0 lead.

Fukuoka shows signs of life
The Suns came out strong in the second half, with running back Chance Bell finding success on the ground. Bell’s speed paid off as he punched in a 5-yard touchdown run, narrowing the gap to 13-7. However, just as Fukuoka seemed to gain momentum, Tokyo Gas responded with a big play from running back Yuto Moribun, who broke free for a 70-yard run, capping it off with a touchdown to push the lead back to 20-7.

Defensive stand seals the game
In the final quarter, Tokyo Gas’s defense stepped up once again. Defensive back Morikami Mamori intercepted a pass, halting Fukuoka’s drive and giving the Creators a chance to extend their lead. Shiramoto capitalized on the opportunity, kicking his third field goal of the day to finalize the score at 23-7.

Key player performances
For Tokyo Gas, Moribun was a standout, rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown, while Tokushima added 28 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own. On the receiving end, Yuji Hayashi caught one pass for 41 yards.
