Jordanian League of American Football announces modified 2020 season

The Jordanian League of American Football, JLAF, announced that it will play a season in 2020 but modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead of five teams playing a typical home and away season, with all the teams based in the capital city of Amman, this year only two All Star teams will compete, a North team and a South team. The two squads will play a series of exhibition games throughout the country, four in Amman and four in different cities. This will mark the first time football will be played outside of Amman.

As usual, open tryouts, which are unique to Jordan in the Middle East, are being held with strict rules in place to safeguard the health of the players.

Players will be selected for these two All Star teams based on their performance and then a draft will be held assigning players to either the North or South team.

With American football being the fastest growing sport in Jordan in the past year and a half, the JLAF’s initiative is intended to now introduce the game to all parts of the country.

About the JLAF

The Jordanian League of American Football was founded in 2015 under the slogan ‘for the youth, by the youth’ and now has five teams playing in and around the capital city of Amman. Football has become the fastest growing sport in the Kingdom of Jordan, thanks to its youth programs. The stated values of the JLAF are respect, discipline and sportsmanship.
