LIVESTREAM Austria: Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants @ Mödling Rangers, April 24, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 09:00 am ET)

The Mödling Rangers (0-1) host the Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants (0-2) in one of three Austrian Football League games on AFI TV this weekend. Both teams are eager to earn their first win of the season as the mid-way slowly point approaches.

The Mödling Rangers have not played a game since their 41-7 loss to the Vienna Vikings back on March 27th. One face that won’t be back is running back Austin Micci who has left the team. Micci was impressive for the Rangers rushing for 133 yards in his only game with the club. Look for defensive import Nick Milgate and Austrian Alexander Formmann to both play bigger roles in the Rangers offense. Mödling quarterback Benjamin Bräuer has recovered from the injury he suffered against the Vikings and looks to  be back in action this weekend.

Bräuer on the matchup with Graz:

“I think we showed Austria that we have a good running game and now we have to help it with a better passing game! Also we have to manage to have more trips to the endzone doesn’t matter through land or air!”

The Giants have also made some changes announcing yesterday that the team and head coach Martin Kocian have parted ways. Kocian was the Giants coach for six years, and will be replaced in an interim role by defensive and offensive coordinators Daniel Schönet and Brandon Gorsuch. Kocian recorded a 27-21 record in Graz and led them to the Austrian Bowl his first season back 2016. Last week, the Giants lost at home to the Swarco Raiders 45-18. One bright spot for Graz was the connection between quarterback Conor Miller and receiver Sommer Phillip. As the season continues, look for these two build chemistry and produce in droves.

Miller on the Raiders loss and the upcoming matchup in Mödling:

“Obviously a loss is never what you want, but I’m really encouraged with how we have held ourselves and each other accountable after the Raiders game and learned from our mistakes. It’s about 11 guys executing their job on every play, and we know if we do that for four quarters, we will put ourselves in great position to earn our first win.”

Both of these teams have recently lost some important parts as they head into this game. Look for some new faces to step up to the plate as players and coaches leaving has created new opportunities on both sidelines.
