The AFC Vienna Vikings (3-4) return home Sunday to face the Swarco Raiders Tirol (0-7) in an Austrian Football League matchup that carries significant importance for both teams as the playoff race enters its final stretch.
For the Vikings, the objective is simple: bounce back from last week’s derby defeat and strengthen their position in the postseason race. For the Raiders, every remaining game is essentially a must-win situation if they hope to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Vikings looking for a response
The Vikings are coming off a frustrating 21-14 loss to the Vienna Knights in the first AFL derby between the two clubs.
After falling behind early, quarterback Michael Szabo helped spark a first-half comeback with touchdown passes to Rudolf Lee Frey and Jordan David Kress. The Vikings carried a 14-7 lead into halftime and appeared to be in control.
However, the offense stalled after the break as the Knights defense shut them out in the second half. A late interception sealed the defeat and dropped Vienna to 3-4.
Now the Vikings return to the Ravelin looking to rediscover the consistency that has occasionally appeared throughout the season.

Raiders searching for breakthrough
The Raiders continue to battle despite an 0-7 record.
Last week they fell 42-22 to the Prague Black Panthers, but there were encouraging moments throughout the game. Quarterback Kenyatte Allen returned to action and connected for touchdown passes to Daniel Spiss and Mateusz Patalas.
Patalas also produced one of the biggest plays of the game with a 60-yard gain that helped ignite the offense. Simon Pilger made several key receptions, while running back Fako Tindo added a late touchdown.
Although the game did not go their way, the Raiders showed plenty of fight against one of the league’s stronger teams.
Playmakers to watch
One key matchup will be the Vikings passing attack against a Raiders defense looking for answers.
For Tirol, Allen’s ability to create big plays will be crucial. If he can establish a rhythm early, the visitors could put pressure on a Vienna team eager to avoid another setback.
