The unbeaten Prague Lions (5-0), leaders of the Czech League of American Football West conference will take on the undefeated Vysocina Gladiators (4-0) who top the standings in the CLAF East, Saturday, May 18 in Jihlava, Czech Republic.
The Gladiators are new to the top league in the Czech Republic this year so this is the first time these two teams have ever faced each other.
The Lions, who reached the semifinals in 2018, have averaged 36.6 points a game so far in 2019 while giving up a league-low 14 points a game. Vysocina has the highest scoring offense racking up 48 points every game but ha allowed 35.25, which ranks among the bottom five teams.
Gladiators quarterback Reggie Langford has thrown for 1,169 yards (292.2 yds/game) and 19 TDs and his leading receiver, David Calta, has hauled in 24 catches for 319 yards and 6 TDs. Langford is also his team’s leading rusher with 304 yards on 40 carries and 6 TDs.
For Prague, quarterback Michael Hayes has thrown for 1,428 yards and 20 TDs in five games and his main target has been Jiøí Kohut who has 21 receptions for 344 yards and 4 TDs. Archie Stevens has 284 yards receiving while Ashley Bailey has 19 catches for 109 yards. Filip Jeèný leads the team in rushing with 340 yards and 5 TDs with Hayes not far behind with 323 yards.
Linebackers Tomáš Pazourek and Joel McCandless anchor a Prague defense that is the stingiest against the run (70 yds/game). They will be facing the top rushing offense in the league as the Gladiators are averaging 171 yards a game
So the top offense will take on the league’s leading defense for football supremacy in the CLAF.
