The Lobos de Quito will play the Caimanes de Guayaquil for Ecuador’s 3rd Annual American Football National Championship on December 1st, 2018 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Thus far, the Lobos have gone undefeated (7-0) in the Northern Division with 0 points allowed under new defensive coordinator MiguelAngel Cunalata.

In the semifinals, under offensive coordinator Brad Scott, the Lobos put a whopping 90 points against the Titanes de Cumbaya.

The Caimanes de Guayaquil are 6-1 heading into the National Championship game with their highest scoring game having been played in the Southern Semifinal winning 30 to 14 against the Bulldogs of Puerto Viejo. The Caimanes are bigger and quicker than the Lobos de Quito overall and expect to host the two-time national champions at home and put up a hard-hitting show.

History

The Caimanes will be in their first ever National Championship having gone 6 -1 just after a year of becoming a club team going 4-4 in 2017. Since the start of the FFAE, Federación de Football Americano – Ecuador, in 2016, the Lobos of Quito have gone 22-1. Their one loss in 2016 during the regular season to the Colorado’s de Santo Domingo coached by Marco De La Cueva. Since that loss, the Lobos have gone 19-0 and this year haven’t allowed a single point scored by opponents.

The Lobos will be appearing in the national championship for the third time in a row. The game will be held in Ecuador’s largest city, Guayaquil. Game day weather looks to be 90 degrees with 70% humidity, the hottest temperature for a final in Lobos and FFAE history.

The Rivalry

The Caimanes and Lobos first played each other early in 2017 in Guayaquil in which they had American quarterback, now Caimanes assistant Coach, Garrett Parker starting. The game finished 38-14 with a Lobos win. The next time the two clubs met was in the 2017 semifinals when the Lobos defeated the Caimanes 34-0 at home. Without a doubt, the Caimanes remember these losses to the Lobos and will be heading into the national championship with confidence after putting up 30 points against a team that also had an American, Steven Smith, and some very explosive players participating for the Bulldogs of Puerto Viejo.
