The Helsinki Roosters (2-0) will play host to the United Newland Crusaders (0-1) as Finland’s Maple League enters its third full week of action in the 2024 regular season.

The Roosters have opened the season in impressive fashion with two straight wins. They defeated the Wasa Royals 28-12 to start the year and then handed the defending champion Porvoo Butchers a 28-7 loss. The Crusaders were manhandled by the Kuopío Steelers 62-14.

In 2023, these two teams split the series with the Crusaders winning the first game 29-28 and Helsinki gaining revenge in the second with a lopsided 49-7 victory.

Helsinki quarterback Ambro Urjansson has looked sharp in his first two games tossing seven touchdowns passes with his main targets being  Bryce Nunnelly and young Rene Rautiainen.

For the Crusaders, Bryce Macina (Franklin University, NCAA Div. II) is behind center. In the loss to Kuopio he threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns with Oskari Suoniemi hauling in nine passes for 152 yards and one touchdown. The Crusaders need to establish the run game in this matchup after only gaining a total of 26 yards on the ground against the Steelers.

Based on play so far, the Roosters enter this game as solid favorites.
