The number 3 ranked Kiel Baltic Hurricanes will play host to division rivals the Dresden Monarchs (#5) in a highly anticipated match up Saturday.
Sitting third in the GFL North division, the Hurricanes have a 3-1 record while Dresden is right behind them at 2-1. Although each team has lost to the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, Kiel has defeated the winless Berlin Adler twice and beaten the Hamburg Huskies. The Monarchs have beaten both Dusseldorf and Braunschweig handing the Lions their only loss of the season so far.
Kiel’s offense is averaging 460 yards a game after four games (36.8 points/game) while Dresden is averaging almost 100 yards less at 367 yards of offense per game. But they are scoring 38 points per outing. Defensively the two teams are almost equal allowing just under 300 yards per game each (24 points/game).
Hurricane quarterback Blake Bolles leads the German league in passing averaging 308 yards per game while throwing 15 touchdowns. His counterpart with the Monarchs, Clay Belton has not been asked to do as much throwing for only 447 yards in three games and four touchdowns. The reason is Dresden’s superb running back, Donald Russell who has rushed for 334 yards in three games while scoring six touchdowns.
Hurricane’s running back Andres Hofbauer is also enjoying an outstanding season so far rushing for 423 yards and three touchdowns. Kiel receiver Tyler Davis is Bolle’s favorite target and leads the German league in receiving yards per game with 128 and receptions per game (7.0). However he will be facing one of the best corners in Germany in Dresden’s Trevar Deed.
