The Munich Cowboys (2-1) will look to continue their strong start to the German Football League season when they host the Allgäu Comets (0-2) at Munich’s Dantestadion on Saturday afternoon in a matchup that pits one of the GFL South’s hottest teams against a squad still searching for its first victory.

Momentum building for Munich

The Cowboys have steadily built momentum after consecutive victories over the Regensburg Phoenix and enter the contest with growing confidence. Head coach Christos Lambropoulos has seen his team develop a rhythm on both sides of the ball, particularly on offense.

Quarterback Nick Semptimphelter is coming off an outstanding performance against Regensburg, throwing for 340 yards and five touchdowns. His chemistry with wide receiver Gabe Boccella has become one of the most productive connections in the league. Boccella caught four touchdown passes in that game and currently leads the GFL scoring race with 48 points.

The combination has helped turn the Munich offense into one of the most dangerous units in the GFL South, capable of producing points quickly and putting pressure on opposing defenses.

Comets looking for breakthrough

The Comets arrive in Munich still searching for their first win but believe their record does not tell the full story.

Losses to the Hildesheim Invaders and IFM Razorbacks Ravensburg have left Allgäu at the bottom of the standings, but there have been encouraging signs offensively. Quarterback Brad Jones threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns against Ravensburg, connecting with Leon Knoop, Martin Horn and Gabe Quigley for scores.

The challenge has been consistency. Turnovers, a struggling running game and too many explosive plays allowed on defense have prevented the Comets from staying competitive for four quarters.

Still, Jones believes the bye week came at the right time.

“Bye Week came at a good time for us. We were able to work through many things and correct mistakes,” he said. “Of course, the results so far have not been what we imagined, but I see progress every day.”

Passing game could decide matchup

Expect the Comets to rely heavily on their passing attack once again.

Jones has shown he can move the football through the air, and Allgäu will likely try to push the pace and force the Cowboys into a high-scoring contest. Wide receiver Martin Horn remains confident the team is moving in the right direction despite the 0-2 start.

“Of course, no one is satisfied with a 0-2 start,” Horn said. “But we see every day how hard the boys work. The mood is good and we know that we are better than the results show so far.”

For the Cowboys, the key will be generating pressure on Jones and preventing the deep passing game from becoming a factor.

Revenge adds extra motivation

There is another layer to this matchup for the Cowboys.

The last meeting between these teams came in the final game of the 2025 season, when the Comets handed Munich a frustrating defeat in Kempten. That loss has not been forgotten and provides extra motivation for a Cowboys team already riding a wave of confidence.

While the visitors arrive rested after a bye week, the Cowboys enter as deserved favorites. If Semptimphelter and Boccella continue their recent form and the defense can limit Jones and the Allgäu passing attack, Munich will have an excellent opportunity to make it three straight victories.
