LIVESTREAM GERMANY: Munich Cowboys @ Frankfurt Universe, August 29, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 9 am ET)

The Munich Cowboys (4-4) travel west to Frankfurt (0-7) to take on the Universe in this GFL South Sunday matchup.

The Universe enter this game determined to earn their first win of the season while the Cowboys are in desperate need of a win to keep themselves in a competitive playoff race.

The Cowboys‘ defense played phenomenal last week holding an explosive Saarland Hurricanes offense to only 14 points in a disappointing 14-3 loss. Veteran linebacker  Ryan Newell made play after play racking up 13 tackles on the day to go along with two forced fumbles. Overall, the defense was able to force four turnovers as AJ Smith added an interception. Expect the Munich defense coordinated by Nadine Nurasyid to play well again today against Frankfurt.

Offensively, however, the Cowboys had problems as they were without their starting quarterback, Justin Sottilare who was injured. Backup quarterback Manuel Engelmann stepped in but struggled in the passing game completing only seven of his 26 attempts for 64 yards and an interception. Engelmann is however a powerful runner, so expect coach Tony Moore to throw in some quarterback runs and option plays with tailback Brandon Watkins to give this Munich offense a boost. Fans can expect Moore to make plenty of adjustments if Sottilare is unavailable today.

The Frankfurt Universe are also coming off of a loss as they were blown out by the Comets last week 42-10. Some positives in that game were quarterback Glenn Cuiellette and his connection to Brandon Butler Jr. and Aaron Edelmann. In the running game, fans can anticipate the former Texas Southern quarterback (NCAA D1) to take the ball himself as well as get speedy back Quaderman Sloan involved.

Defensively, the Universe has struggled mightily giving up a dismal 61 points per game. One bright spot however continues to be young outside linebacker Marius Markert The versatile defender can play the run or pass equally well, wrapping up to make tackles and covering tight ends and running backs with good technique throughout the season. Last week, Markert led the way with nine tackles.

Munich has survived a roller-coaster season so far and still has the playoffs in sight. They’ll have to win today and send a message to the rest of the GFL South that they are not to be forgotten with or without their starting quarterback. An offense that once put up over 60 points in a game, failed to reach the endzone last week. The Cowboys hope to bounce back and earn the win today with whatever their circumstances may be. Across the field, the Universe would like to take advantage of a depleted Munich squad and get their first win of the season at home.
