Saturday, July 8th, the Ingolstadt Dukes (2-3) will square off against the Straubing Spiders (2-4) in a German Football League South mid-season matchup.
Having a back-and-forth season, Straubing is coming off of a tough 28-7 loss in their last matchup against the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
On the other hand, Ingolstadt will look to travel to Spiders home turf and keep their momentum going after their 39-20 victory last week against the Munich Cowboys.
After having three straight road games, Straubing gets another chance to play in front of their home crowd. This may be the swing of momentum they need, as in their last home game, they defeated the Ravenburg Razorbacks 25-20.

When it comes to their offensive identity, the Spiders are led by Christopher Robinson at quarterback. However, they find most of their success on the ground with running back Kamal Cass. Cass is second in the GFL in rushing yards with 533 and fourth in the league with four rushing touchdowns. Cass has also made sure to keep the ball off the turf with zero fumbles on the season.
Cass and the Spiders may be in for a big day as the Duke’s defense has given up the fourth most rushing yards per game in the GFL so far this season with 151.4.
After dropping three straight games, Ingolstadt was finally able to get back into in the column. Last week, after defeating the Cowboys, the Dukes have put themselves in a great spot to be one of the top teams out of the GFL South.
After coming from the GFL 2 just last season, quarterback Matthew Weimer has continued to prove he can play in Germany’s top league at a high level. Weimer is fourth in passing yards (1,455) and third in passing touchdowns (17). He also has the third best completion percentage in the GFL with 71.2%. Weimer will need to continue to play at his best to walk out of Straubing with a win.
