The German Football League serves up one of its biggest matchups of the season Saturday as the Hildesheim Invaders (5-0) welcome the defending champion Potsdam Royals (4-0) to Friedrich-Ebert-Stadion in a battle of undefeated title contenders.
With first place in the GFL North on the line and playoff positioning already beginning to take shape, it is hard to imagine a more intriguing regular-season matchup at this stage of the year.
Invaders ready for biggest test yet
The Hildesheim Invaders have been one of the league’s biggest success stories so far in 2026.
Victories over the Allgäu Comets, Regensburg Phoenix, Düsseldorf Panther, Braunschweig Lions, and Kiel Baltic Hurricanes have pushed the Invaders to the top of the standings and established them as a legitimate contender.
Quarterback Nelson Hughes III has been at the center of that rise, leading an offense that has produced 192 points through five games. He has plenty of weapons around him, including Paul Terjung, Philipp Dolezal, and Lennart Stukenborg, while defenders such as Kyle Kitchens, Willem Vancompernolle, Christian Klötergens, and Julian Thompson have helped make the team dangerous on both sides of the ball.

Royals bring championship pedigree
The Potsdam Royals arrive with the confidence that comes from being the defending champions.
While Potsdam has played one fewer game, the Royals are averaging 43 points per contest and have paired that offensive efficiency with the strongest defense in the GFL. Through four games, they have allowed just 27 points.
Quarterback Xeaiver Bullock directs an offense loaded with playmakers, including Maximilian McLeod, Peter Martin, Kassim Tiamiu, and Emanuel Bakare. The running game featuring Heiko Bals, Chrisman Kyei, and Glenn Devin Knospe provides additional balance.
Defensively, Joshua Wünsch, Ryan Minniti, Aashari Crosswell, Hunter Hewitt, Max Menache, and Fabrizio Umitelli headline a unit that has been dominant all season.
