LIVESTREAM HUNGARIAN BOWL: Budapest Wolves @ Fehérvár Enthroners, July 10, 15.30 CET (3.30 pm, 9:30 am ET)

The matchup between the Fehérvár Enthroners and Budapest Wolves Saturday, July 13 at First Field in Székesfehérvár, Hungary will decide the fate of the Hungarian Bowl trophy.

This could be a record setting year for the Enthroners. Since the start of the Hungarian Football League in 2012, no team has been able to capture back-to-back championships. Fehérvár is very close to achieving this milestone. Only two teams came near: the Budapest Wolves (2012, 2013) and the Miskolc Steelers (2016, 2017).

In addition, the Enthroners are on the brink of setting another record if they win, finishing the HFL season without a loss. The Miskolc Steelers came close in 2017 but lost to the Budapest Cowbells in the final game.

Jaime Hill’s Enthroners have had a solid season so far. Márk Erős proved to be a great replacement at quarterback for Bence Gombos and the rushing and receiving game has been outstanding, not just in total yards (1,249 yards), which was only third best in the HFL, but in making big plays at crucial moments. And the defense excelled, becoming the best pass rushing unit in the league with 16 sacks with defensive end Jebrai Regan making more than half of them (8.5).

Jaime Hill, head coach of the Fehérvár Enthroners:

“All games have their specialties, just like this. The most important is to give one hundred percent and execute our game plan. Our opponent has greatly improved since our last game which means we might have to adjust a lot during the finals. However, we are at our own field, and we want to be champions.”

The Budapest Wolves is aiming for their eighth Hungarian Bowl title. Although they were considered one of the top contenders before the start of the season, the Wolves offense did not live up to expectations, producing the most interceptions (5) and several turnovers. Nevertheless, quarterback Márk Bencsics had the most passing yards (839 yards) during the regular season. In addition, running back Dávid Danku’s recent form was key for the offense (11 carries, 106 yards, 1 TD against the Győr Sharks). The defense had been pretty solid during the season especially against the pass and led the league with nine deflected passes and five interceptions.

Ferenc Sződy, defensive coordinator of the Budapest Wolves:

“We have to be cautious with Rashad Still. Whenever he gets the ball, he will catch it. At our last meeting no matter how well we knew where he was going, no matter how hard we tried to block him, he could always grab the ball. I hope we will not give him a lot of space this time. Because I am confident that we can hold their running game, but stopping Rashad Still will be a tough challenge.”
