The United States will defend both of its world championships Sunday in Düsseldorf, with Italy standing between the American men and another title while Canada takes its shot at the U.S. women on the final day of IFAF World Flag 2026. But before the medals and Olympic berths are decided, Day 4 opens with a full slate of placement games as the rest of the field battles for its final position in the World Championship standings.
Placement games open final day
Sunday begins with the remaining men’s and women’s placement games, giving teams eliminated from championship contention one final opportunity to finish the tournament on a high note.
Those games will determine the final positions throughout the standings before attention turns to the bronze-medal games and the race for Los Angeles 2028.
Italy gets its shot at USA
The Italian men punched their ticket to the championship game with a 41-36 semifinal victory over Canada.
That win also guaranteed Italy a place at LA28, since the United States has already qualified as Olympic host.

The Americans survived two close knockout games Saturday, beating Japan 45-38 before edging Mexico 42-40 in the semifinals.
Canada takes aim at defending champions
The women’s final matches the United States against Canada.
Canada delivered one of the tournament’s biggest results by shutting down world No. 1 Mexico 20-6. Quarterback Sara Parker threw three touchdown passes as the Canadians built a 20-0 lead.
The United States had to rally from a 14-0 deficit to beat Great Britain 27-21, with Akemi Higa finding Maci Joncich for the go-ahead touchdown with 19 seconds remaining.
Olympic berths on the line
The bronze-medal games carry enormous stakes.
Mexico faces Canada on the men’s side, while Mexico meets Great Britain in the women’s game. Both winners will claim bronze and direct qualification for LA28.
World titles close out Düsseldorf
The day culminates with the two championship games.
The United States faces unbeaten Italy for the men’s world title at 15:00 CET before the American women take on Canada at 16:30.
After four days of competition in Düsseldorf, two world champions and the final two Olympic qualifiers available at IFAF World Flag 2026 will be decided.
