The 2-0 Lazio Ducks will face their toughest test of the young season in Italy’s Div. I, when they travel to Florence, Italy to take on the 1-0 Firenze Guelfi Saturday March 23.
Under new head coach Art Briles, the Firenze Guelfi opened the season with a convincing 27-17 win over perennial title contenders, the Parma Panthers. The Guelfi trailed 17-0 before finding their rhythm with Silas Nacita and quarterback Lynx Hawthorne leading the charge. Nacita had 292 yards in all purpose yards and two interceptions including a pick six, while Hawthorne threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 79 yards and a touchdown. The pair along with safety Steve Franco present a formidable challenge for the Ducks.
Nevertheless, Lazio has looked impressive in their two opening wins. Last week, Davide Giuliano’s Ducks dismantled the Ancona Dolphins beating them easily, 41-12. The Ducks had a solid opening weekend win over the Bologna Warriors the week before, doubling up on them 40-20.
In Lazio’s two wins quarterback Tyler Johnson has thrown for 477 yards and nine touchdowns while running back Mike Gentili picked up where he left off in 2018, racking up 208 yards rushing and scoring a touchdown. Leading receivers for the Ducks have been Tommaso Pozzebon who has had nine catches for 118 yards and a touchdown and Gentili with six catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Lorenzo Melchiorre has been spectacular at times with 104 yards receiving and four touchdowns, three in the win over the Dolphins.
This is the game of the week in Italy.
