The second IFL semifinal has the feel of a heavyweight tactical rematch. The Parma Panthers, the No. 2 seed at 6-2, host the Torino Giaguari, a 5-3 team that has already shown it can push Parma to the edge. The Panthers won the regular-season meeting by only 23-21, and that narrow margin gives Sunday’s game the look of a contest that could again come down to the final possessions.
Panthers chasing another final
Parma comes in with the pedigree and the pressure. The Panthers are chasing a 12th Italian Bowl appearance, which would move them into second place all-time for finals played, and they already own seven national titles. Their 2026 team has been powered by a versatile offense led by quarterback Roman Fuller, with Matteo Ghelfi as a key receiving weapon and important reinforcements such as Dominick Fiscelli and Jaylin Parnell back in the mix.
The Panthers defense, after some high-scoring tests earlier in the year, has also found more solidity at the right moment. That matters because Torino’s path to the semifinal was anything but lucky. The Giaguari crushed the Aquile Ferrara 42-10 in the Wild Card round, building a 35-7 halftime lead and reaching the IFL final four for the first time in 35 years.

Giaguari bringing balance
Torino’s identity starts with running back Ethan Greenfield, the centerpiece of the Giaguari offense. But the Wild Card win also showed why Parma cannot simply overplay the run. Quarterback Riccardo Duranti threw touchdown passes to Cameron Colangelo and Luciano Giuliani and also scored on a 28-yard run, proving again that the Giaguari can punish defenses that collapse too aggressively toward Greenfield.
Defensively, Torino has the profile to make Parma work. The Giaguari are described as physical and aggressive, with American import Cameron Colangelo in the secondary, a deep front seven and Italian national team DB Paolo Lazzaretto helping lead the back end.
Key matchup
The matchup is straightforward but fascinating: Parma’s high-rhythm, multi-threat offense against a Torino defense built to survive explosive attacks; Greenfield’s run game against a Panthers front that must stay disciplined without giving Duranti easy passing windows. The first meeting already showed that Torino can compete with Parma. The semifinal will show whether the Giaguari can finish the job.
What to watch
Parma’s defensive discipline on early downs. If the Panthers keep Greenfield from controlling the game, they can force Torino into longer-yardage situations. If Greenfield stays ahead of schedule, Duranti’s play-action and designed passing shots become much more dangerous.
AFI prediction angle
Panthers have the deeper big-game résumé and home-field advantage, but Giaguari are not a comfortable draw. This should be the tighter of the two semifinals, with Parma favored only slightly because of Fuller, offensive balance and the lessons learned from the 23-21 regular-season win.
