The Puebla Artilleros (1-0), surprising winners in the opening round of the Liga de Futbol Americano Professional (LFA), when they downed the defending champion Mexicas, will face the 1-0 Condors in Sunday’s late game.
The Condors also won their opening round game in the Central Conference, defeating the Mayas, 21-13.
Artilleros quarterback Andres Chio threw two touchdown passes in the win over the Mexicas, one to Sebastian Olvera and another to Luis Miguel Ramirez while the defense scored two touchdowns. Joaquín Guerra Durán and defensive tackle Guillermo Calderón Leal both picked off Mexicas quarterback Francisco Quintana Rios passes and returned them for major scores. Gabriel Amavizca Ortíz added a field goal and two PATs.
In the Condors victory, quarterback Diego Pérez overcame a struggling performance by throwing the game-clinching touchdown pass to Preston Bailey from 11 yards out with two minutes remaining on the clock.
