Watch College Playoff Football Live From Mexico! UNAM C.U. Pumas v. UAdeC Lobos

Mexico’s ONEFA –  Organización Nacional Estudiantil de Futbol Americano (National Student Organization of American Football) – heads into the two final quarterfinal playoff games this weekend.

The ONEFA is the league in Mexico made up of mostly of the public university American football teams in the nationIn 2015, the Auténticos Tigres took the title defeating the UNAM Pumas CU 16-7.

The structure of the playoffs in the ONEFA is a little challenging even for some experts. The playoff teams are drawn from two conferences, the Green and the White conferences. The Green conference teams are more heavily weighted with the top two teams ranked #1 and #2 overall. The first two teams from the White conference are ranked #5 and 6 in the ranking.

In the two games already played, the Auténticos Tigres overwhelmed the UNAM Pumas 62-7 while the UAEM Potros Salvajes downed the UACH Toros Salvajes 36-21. Both the Tigres and Potros Salvajes have advanced to the semifinals.

Third game

The third game on tap is the 7-2 UAdeC Lobos who finished first in the ONEFA White conference hosting the 4-5 UNAM Pumas, fourth place finishers in the Green conference.

The Lobos enter the game on a three game win streak. Their last loss was an inter-conference game against the UACH Aguilas also from the White conference who beat them 35-21. Their only other loss in 2016 was to the number one ranked Autenticos Tigres 24-17 in late September.

The Pumas on the other hand lost their final two regular season games although they have had a tougher schedule. However, they have played two inter-conference games against White conference opponents and won them handily.

Most experts in Mexico (by a margin of 8 to 4) are predicting a win by the Pumas.

Kickoff: Saturday November 12, 3 PM (2 PM EST, 10 PM CET)
