LIVESTREAM: Spain – Gijon Mariners @Zaragoza Hurricanes, Sat. Jan. 18, 12p CET (6a ET)

The 0-1 Gijon Mariners will pay a visit to Zaragoza, Spain Saturday, January 17 to face the Zaragoza Hurricanes who will be playing their first game of the 2020 season in the Spanish League of American Football.

The Hurricanes won only two games in 2019 but are looking to move up. Head coach Isaac Bujan has signed Mexican quarterback Alan Macedo and linebacker Bobby Cortés, also from Mexico.  German lineman Marvin Röben (Munich Cowboys) will give added stability. The receiving corps has been bolstered by Mexican Edgar Arguello, who is returning, and Brazilian lineman Gabriel Raeder further strengthens the offensive and defensive lines.

The Mariners are coming off a disappointing 29-21 loss to the L’Hospitalet Pioners last week after holding a 21-20 lead with less than four minutes remaining.

Daniel Castañón, head coach of the Gijon Mariners is opting for an all Spanish lineup and is testing the skills of the club’s junior players who have moved up. In other words, the Mariners are playing without imports in 2020.

Based on the game last week, Castañón and his Mariners may surprise in 2020.
