It’s championship week in Sweden! Saturday, October 24 in Karlstad, the Stockholm Mean Machines will be taking on the Carlstad Crusaders for the third time in three years for the Swedish Championship.

The Stockholm Mean Machines are looking for a potential three-peat while the Carlstad Crusaders are looking to get back to the top spot in Sweden. In the regular season Stockholm and Carlstad split their two game series with Stockholm winning in week 1 and Carlstad winning at home in the final week of the regular season. All that doesn’t matter anymore. There are four quarters left to see who will be crowned champion!

Stockholm looked like they were back on track with their convincing 41-6 win in the semi final versus Uppsala. In order to get the win this week the Mean Machines will have to score against a stingy Crusaders defense.  Stockholm is stacked with exciting playmakers like Aphla Jalloh, Ben von Jagow, Edvin Almeida, Pär Lindelöf, Timmy Goransson, and quarterback Timothy Morovick. In their last game against Carlstad, Stockholm was shut out, they will be looking to change that on Saturday.   Offensive lineman Keanu Ebanks on the matchup with a tough Carlstad defense:

“Their defense is solid, with a lot of talent and a great scheme. Eddie Onamade is a standout in that secondary. We are going to go execute our plays at a high level and let our talent fight against theirs. Its gonna be a hell of a battle.”

Defensively the Mean Machines and Malcolm Engstrom will need to shut down Carlstad’s offense to get the win. Look for ballhawking defensive back Denny John to make some plays Saturday that could change the momentum of the game.

For Carlstad, the home field should play as an advantage. Carlstad won a hard fought game against the Örebro Black Knights in overtime. The Crusaders have been aided by late addition Niko Lester who came over from the Triangle Razorbacks in Denmark. Lester, running back Emil Knuttson, and wide receiver Kevin Börzsei make quarterback Danny Farley and the Crusaders offense multifaceted and efficient.

Defensively the Crusaders have been dominant all season, allowing less than 10 points a game on average. Crusaders linebacker Christian Kuylenstjerna had 49 total tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss, the most in Sweden. In the secondary Darius Lewis has been a difference maker making plays all over the field and being a dangerous kick and punt returner. Lewis on the championship game:

“After everything we have been through this year we will prove to each other that one of us is not a quitter, and anyone can depend on us to give everything for someone we love. That goes for both sides of the ball and both teams!  ”

This game is a rematch of two excellent hard-fought games earlier this year and the grudge match should serve as the best one yet. There is a three peat on the line for the Mean Machines and a chance to be back on top for Carlstad! Lets see who wants it more!
