New American Football League in Peru; Liga Inka Kicks Off

Liga Inka de Futbol Americano in Peru: 5 teams fighting for the Peruvian title

Not many people know that American football has been played in Peru for several years. But now a new national league has been organized – the LIFA –  and it is the first American football competition and league ever organized in Peru featuring all Peruvian clubs.

The league kicked off this past weekend at the Polideportivo de San Borja.

The opening game of the Liga Inka de Futbol Americano (LIFA) took place Sunday at the Sports Limatambo, in the district of San Borja in Peru.

There were five teams participating in the event. Below is a brief description of each of them:

The Dire Wolves are the first football team founded in Peru and have international experience having played a d beaten an Ecuadorian squad in a friendly.

The Raptors, the second team formed, are known for being a veteran squad and have Americans on their roster.

The Club Eagles, who participated in the Tournament of the Andes in 2014, have played against teams from abroad as such as the Brazilian Corinthians Steamrollers, Titans Cail, Colombian Bogota Yaks and Mexico Fire Arena.

In addition, the Titans, of San Juan de Lurigancho, are a team that have been preparing for months and will be worth talking about.

Finally, the Wild Dolphins, who are a brand new club made up of a highly enthusiastic group of athletes who will soon make their mark.

In the first round, the Aguilas defeated the Titanes 16-6 while the Raptors blanked the Wild Dolphins 58-0.
