Sweden’s Örebro Black Knights display their power in home opener

The Örebro Black Knights kicked off the season in Sweden shocking the Stockholm Mean Machines 53-6  in their home opener at Behrn Arena. A crowd of 1,256 went home happy as the Black Knights stingy defense and explosive offense were on full display.

Örebro wasted no time, taking control of the game in the first quarter building a 13-0 lead. Stockholm, led by five time Swedish champion Anders Hermodsson at quaterback responded with a touchdown, closing the gap to 13-6. And that was as close as the Mean Machines came.

The Black Knight’s defense put a stop to any attempt to reduce the lead further and the first fifteen minutes ended with the Örebro holding a commanding 28-6 lead.

That was how the first half ended but in the third quarter, the Örebro offense kicked into a higher gear adding 25 more points including a pick six by newly signed defensive back Danny Wynne.

Aaron Fiddler, head coach of the Örebro Black Knights:

“I am satisfied with the team. We played well even if it wasn’t of the highest caliber in everything we did. The first game of the season is always tough, so it’s nice that we have a little extra time now to prepare for the next game to correct those mistakes we made today.”
