Oslo Vikings, Edisvoll 1814s clash in 2017 Norwegian championship game rematch

Two familiar foes face each other in the 2017 Norwegian championship game as the defending champion Oslo Vikings take on perennial favorites the Eidsvoll 1814s at Bislett stadion in Oslo.

Oslo returned to the top of the Norwegian league last year beating the Eidsvoll 14-7 to win the Norwegian title for the first time since 2012 and 10th time in their history. Eidsvoll are nine-time Norwegian champions and has advanced to the Norwegian title game for the past three years. They have played each other a total of 10 times n the Norwegian final with Eidsvoll having a 6-4 edge.

The two teams faced each other twice this year with Oslo winning both, 37-0 and 37-20.

The Vikings finished first in the regular season going undefeated but were surprised by the Valerenga Trolls in the semifinals, getting pushed but finally coming away with a 39-32 win. Eidsvoll used an improved offense to dispose of the Asane Seahawks 47-20.

The Vikings had the highest scoring offense in Norway recording 210 points in six games while their defense was also the best allowing only nine points a game. The 1814s gradually improved as the season progressed and the team began to gel.

Eidsvoll quarterback Edwin Brekke is no stranger to playoff games. He has  excellent weapons to choose from himself including the receiver/running back duo of Arne Skovseth and Michael Hall.

Hall is also dangerous on defense from his linebacker spot.

Eidsvoll head coach TJ Reap is no stranger to pressure football games, with his background, which includes winning an Austrian championship with the Graz Giants.

Oslo quarterback Robert Mehmet Sezer is young but has been poised in the pocket all year. He has targets to throw to including wide receivers Bror Jahre and Eric Ford as well as running back Vegard Tysse.

Vikings head coach Derek Mann has helped return Oslo to its days of glory and is hoping this game will continue that trend.
