Pforzheim Wilddogs bury Saarland Hurricanes 86-6 in GFL South statement

The Pforzheim Wilddogs (8-4) turned their final regular-season game at KRAMSKI Arena into a rout this past weekend, hammering the Saarland Hurricanes (2-9) 86-6 behind eight touchdowns from quarterback Drequan Harris and three more scores from the defense.

Pforzheim hits the gas early

Wilddogs quarterback Drequan Harris wasted little time putting Saarland under pressure. He kept the ball and raced 17 yards for the opening touchdown, and Theo Michel ran in the conversion for an 8-0 lead.

After the Wilddogs defense forced a turnover on downs, Harris went to the air, hitting Luca Hirschberger for an 11-yard touchdown before finding AJ Coons for two more points.

The Hurricanes finally answered early in the second quarter when quarterback Gabriel Cunningham hit Marvin Gamerschlag-Kube for a 12-yard touchdown, trimming the margin to 16-6.

Then Pforzheim blew the game open.

Harris ran in his second touchdown, the Wilddogs recovered an onside kick and Harris immediately found Hirschberger for a 31-yard score. Hirschberger caught another touchdown later in the quarter before Matteo Dazzani hauled in a three-yard scoring pass with three seconds left, sending Pforzheim into halftime up 46-6.

Defense piles on

Any hope of a Saarland response disappeared quickly after the break.

Jeremy Conley jumped a pass and took the interception 19 yards to the end zone. Bryan Yankson finished a 94-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run, and Harris then connected with Coons for a 34-yard score.

The Wilddogs defense wasn’t finished.

Martin Körber returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown, and moments later Nick Oliver grabbed another and raced 28 yards for Pforzheim’s third pick-six.

Hirschberger finished the scoring with his fourth touchdown reception.

Harris drives an explosive afternoon

Harris threw for 305 yards and six touchdowns while ripping off another 163 yards and two scores on the ground, accounting for 468 yards of offense.

Hirschberger caught nine passes for 128 yards and four touchdowns, while Coons produced 154 yards and a touchdown on six receptions.

At the other end, Pforzheim held the Hurricanes to just 25 rushing yards and didn’t allow another point after their second-quarter touchdown.

The 86-6 win leaves the Wilddogs waiting on Ravensburg as the race for second place in the GFL South — and a home playoff game — comes down to the closing games of the regular season.
