The Warsaw Mets have signed former University of Texas starting QB David Ash.
Ash was one of the top rated QB’s in the country coming out of Belton H.S (Texas) with ESPNU having him ranked at #11. The three-year starter broke 13 school records passing for 7,944 yards and 80 TDs while rushing for 815 yards and 22 TDs which led to multiple All-American and All-State accolades.
The 6’3″ 230 pound QB committed to Texas early and saw significant playing time in his first year. Ash was named starter for the team’s Holiday Bowl appearance in 2011 – Ash went on to be named offensive MVP after a 21 – 10 victory over Cal.
By his sophomore year Ash had solidified his starting spot and ended up throwing for 2,669 yards, 19 TDs and 2 rushing TDs making him one of the top performing QBs in the country. He went on to lead the Longhorns to an 8 – 4 record and a winning appearance against Oregon at the 2012 Alamo Bowl.
Ash’s junior year got off to a quick start but was cut short in the second game against BYU where he suffered a concussion late in the fourth quarter. After missing the third game he returned in the fourth against Kansas State before re-aggravating his concussion. This injury would end his season and ultimately his career after he tried to return the following year but had a recurrence of symptoms.
Ash finished his collegiate career with 30 appearances, 4,728 passing yards, 379 rushing yards and 36 combined TD’s in one of the top football programs in the country.
In 2017, Ash was again medically cleared to play stating that medication had controlled his migraines. After a short stint in the Spring League and an invitation to the rookie mini-camp with the Carolina Panthers he reached out to University of Texas alumni Jake Hale, and now head coach of the Warsaw Mets. Hale seized the opportunity to bring Ash to Poland as their starting QB.
