Potsdam Royals crush Munich Cowboys 59-0, extend historic shutout streak

The Potsdam Royals (11-1) closed the German Football League regular season with another overwhelming defensive performance, blanking the Munich Cowboys (6-6) 59-0 and extending their remarkable shutout streak to five straight games.

With second place in the GFL North already secured, Potsdam could have treated the finale as a playoff tune-up. Instead, the Royals buried Munich early, racing to a 45-0 halftime lead before finishing a five-game stretch in which they outscored their opponents 290-0.

Harvey and McLeod strike early

Bay Harvey needed only three minutes to get Potsdam moving, finding Maximilian McLeod for the opening touchdown before connecting with him again on the two-point conversion.

The pair kept attacking the Munich secondary. Harvey hit McLeod twice more for touchdowns in the opening quarter, including a 38-yard strike that pushed the lead to 28-0.

Keyshawn Smith took over in the second quarter. Harvey found him for a 44-yard touchdown and later connected with him again for another score. A two-point conversion and Florian Bals field goal sent the Royals into halftime up 45-0.

Defense gives Munich nowhere to go

While Harvey and the offense piled up points, the Potsdam defense never allowed the Cowboys to settle in.

Ruben De Ruyter was everywhere, finishing with 5.5 tackles, three assists, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Giorgius Tarlas and Joshua Wünsch each added a sack as the Royals repeatedly shut down Munich before drives could develop.

The shutout continued a staggering run that began with a 61-0 victory over the Hildesheim Invaders. Potsdam followed with wins of 49-0 over the Düsseldorf Panther, 61-0 over the Braunschweig Lions and 60-0 over the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes.

Royals finish the job

With the game well under control, Potsdam spread the workload after halftime.

Adrian Peter powered into the end zone late in the third quarter and Corey Jeeves added the two-point conversion for a 53-0 lead. Chrisman Kyei then finished the scoring, punching the ball in from two yards to make it 59-0.

The victory gave the Royals 583 points scored against just 79 allowed over their 12-game regular season.

Historic streak carries into playoffs

Five consecutive shutouts gives Potsdam a GFL record and sends the defending champions into the postseason on a dominant run.

Now the numbers reset.

The Royals will host the Ravensburg Razorbacks in the quarterfinals, where one loss ends the season. After closing the regular season with 290 unanswered points, Potsdam enters playoff football with its defense on a historic roll and another championship run directly in front of it.
