PREVIEW: Ljubljana Silverhawks, Vienna Vikings Rematch Now Has Austria League Implications

The Vienna Vikings have had a perfect season after their victory in the BIG6 over the Aix-en-Provence Argonautes from France. The only team who have scored against them this season has been the Ljubljana Silverhawks in their first matchup of the season, a 16-7 win for the Vikings in Vienna.

This weekend the two teams face each other in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The game will be interesting because it pits two defenses who played incredible football in the first game.

The Vikings pressured Silverhawks quarterback Anthony Gardner (who was playing injured but will be ready for the rematch) allowing him little time to release the ball.

Until the last quarter, the Silverhawks were successful in stopping both Austrian quarterbacks while also picking them off twice.

There was also a huge hit and a fumble recovery from Silverhawks defense worth another look:

On both sides, some starters will be missing due to injuries, but both teams have depth. The Silverhawks have added a new running back, Darion Hall (Tennessee State). He will also return punts and kickoffs, and could be a major threat for the Vikings to deal with.

Here are his highlights:

This game will be interesting not only because the two teams have already faced each other, but also because the Silverhawks are looking for their first win in Austria’s AFL.
